What is the first step? What do I need to do?
You can contact Kataria Therapy and have a brief 15 minute telephone consultation to see if it would be useful for you to attend a psychology assessment that lasts 90 minutes.
How do I know if I am ready for therapy?
It is natural to question if therapy is for you and if the timing is right too. It is normal to feel a range of emotions and have questions and thoughts about therapy. The free 15 minute phone consultation may help you decide if you want to proceed to assessment. The assessment is also an opportunity to explore whether therapy is right for you and if you want to commit to therapy.
What does a psychology assessment involve?
This has been explained in full in the section about the services that are available. In summary it is an opportunity to gain a deeper and more fuller understanding of you, the experiences or difficulties that you are experiencing and together devise a treatment plan. You are not obliged to start therapy after assessment if you change your mind.
How many sessions of therapy will I need?
Sometimes it can be helpful to have just a couple of sessions to get advice and guidance. Sometimes only a few sessions, such as four to six are enough and at other times we may agree on an initial 8, 10 or 12. I will agree a number of sessions with you that feel right for you in terms of the practical and financial commitment that you can make to therapy. After these sessions end, we can have a review of your situation, your therapy goals and progress and decide on further sessions if they are required.
What does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy will depend on the type of treatment required and for how long. I am sometimes able to offer therapy at a reduced rate depending on your situation, but also if longer term therapy is required. I can advise more on cost once we have an initial phone consultation.
Is therapy private?
Therapy is confidential, however I may share information with a GP or a person in your life if I feel worried about you and feel that you may harm or hurt yourself or others. These situations are rare and if they occur my main priority is to speak to you about my concerns and how we move forward to keep you safe. Together, we can agree on a plan to stay safe and who to contact.
Who can come to therapy with me?
It is normal practice to meet with the client, however sometimes if there is a significant person in a client’s life that could benefit from attending the session or have useful contributions to make, their attendance can be discussed. I can offer sessions for couples and families if this is considered helpful to your situation.
Can I attend appointment online?
Yes, sessions are provided online through online platform, Microsoft Teams.
